Ongoing actions/ campaigns:
From Manchester Animal Action:
Anti-Fur demo this Saturday at Harvey Nichols from 12 noon.
We’re keeping up the pressure, after their head of fashion was forced to resign because of the controversy caused by the reintroduction of fur. See:

Join us if you can from 12 Noon, at Harvey Nichols, 21 New Cathedral Street, Manchester, M1 1AD
From Northern Gas Gala:
Over the past weeks protest camp has been set up on the side of the road in Barton Moss, Salford leading to a site where a company ‘IGas’ were recently granted a permit to do ‘exploratory drilling’ for the next 3 months. This is the first stage to see if the geology is suitable for coal bed methane extraction and / or fracking – both dodgy and dangerous fossil fuel processes.

Tuesday 4th March
Stop TTIP/TAFTA Corporate Takeover!
Informational Assembly
4th March 2014, 6-8pm
At the Central Hall, Oldham Street, M1 1JQ
(on Oldham St, between Back Piccadilly and Dale St)
If you care about GM-free food, labour rights, a frack-free Manchester and a public NHS then this meeting is absolutely crucial for you.
With the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) or Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA) ratified, governments will not be able anymore to ensure any social protections for their citizens. Instead, corporations can overrule any policy that limits their future profits through extensive compensation claims (paid by taxpayers), which effectively paralyses progressive policy making to protect vulnerable people and/or the environment.
The trade negotiations are currently going on behind closed doors with no national parliamentary participation. Mainstream media has barely mentioned this trade agreement even though it threatens to affect many areas of our lives, including food safety, labour rights and environmental standards.
Manchester Zapatista Collective will hold an INFORMATIONAL ASSEMBLY about the TTIP/TAFTA on 4th March 2014, 6-8pm at at the Central Hall, Oldham Street, M1 1JQ.
We have invited John Hilary (War on Want, London) who will tell us about the state of the trade negotiations between EU-USA, the consequences of TTIP/TAFTA for labour rights, environmental protections, food safety etc. and ongoing grass roots resistance against TTIP/TAFTA in London and Europe.
Talk will be followed by a Q&A and action planning.
Our room is wheelchair accessible.
Bring curiosity and willingness to think of collective action to STOP TTIP/TAFTA!
Everybody welcome!
Wednesday 12th March
Seattle Solidarity Network (SeaSol) have spearheaded a new way of applying tried and tested direct action tactics against crooked bosses and landlords with great success. They take on winnable fights with a plan of action that ensures they are winnable and building consciousness as the struggles continue. Their methods have picked up momentum beyond North America and Solidarity Networks in the same vein are now active across the globe. MANCHESTER SOLNET would like to invite you to a talk/discussion with a member of Glasgow SolNet about why they think the model has been right for conditions in Seattle, Glasgow, and beyond. The main aim of the discussion will be to look at the model and find out if it would be of use in Manchester.
