Tuesday 20th March

GMCDP is hosting a community screening of Defiant Lives, which tells the story of the rise and fight of the disability rights movement in the United States, Britain and Australia.  .

Featuring exclusive interviews with people who’ve led the movement over the past five decades, the film weaves together never-before-seen archival footage with the stories of disabled men and women as they moved from being warehoused in institutions to fighting for independence and control over their lives.  Once freed from their imprisonment, disabled men and women took on the big charities, criticising the use of celebrities to beg on their behalf.  They chained themselves to public transport around the world and demanded access “to boldly go where everyone else has gone before”; and they lobbied for support to live ordinary lives in the community with family, lovers and friends.

Defiant Lives is a film full of extraordinary people who put their lives on the line to create a better and very different world where everyone can participate.

Sunday 25th March

New for 2018… we will be running Street Edge Series, doing a different sporting event / occasion every month to mix up activities and get people learning a variety of sports!

For March we will be hiking up the Kinder Scout in a nod to the mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932.

The Hike is open to all abilities, we will be getting the 10:40 train from Piccadilly to Edale and then the hike should take around two and a half hours then we will all be going to back to the Old Nags Head in Edale for a Sunday roast then back to Manchester.
